Do you fancy volunteering for the Fusilier Museum London?

We are a small friendly team based up in one corner of the Tower of London. We are made up of 2 members of staff and a group of enthusiastic and committed volunteers. The museum explores the history of the Royal Fusiliers, a regiment whose roots at the Tower date back to 1685. If you are interest in history, are keen to learn new skills or are simply looking to meet new people and take on a new challenge then have a look at our volunteering positions. One of them could be for you:

Collections Move Volunteer
We are part way through a project moving collection material from the basement into a purpose designed store and are looking for 4 new recruits to join our existing team. The role offers the opportunity to learn skills in; cataloguing, condition checking collection material, basic conservation cleaning, photographing and packing collection material. Due to the amount of training given for this role we ask a minimum of 4 months commitment for this role. The full role profile can be downloaded here.

Data Cleaning Volunteer
Last year the museum migrated its museum catalogue to a new system, CollectionsIndex+. As a result the museum is working through a process of data cleaning to improve the quality of its records in order to make the system useful and usable into the future. We are looking for 2 patience and methodical volunteers who will enjoy the satisfaction of knocking the catalogue into shape. Two volunteering positions will be available on a rolling 3 month cycle with the potential to stay on. The full role profile can be downloaded here.

Research Volunteers
To accompany the collection move project the museum is keen to open up more of its collection to the general public. We are looking for 4 volunteers to come in once a week to research the history of the regiment and the objects we have been finding to prepare a series of talks and tours to engage visitors. There may be an opportunity to include object handling sessions with the talks and tours. Due to the amount of training given we ask a minimum of 3 months commitment for this role, with the potential to stay on. The full role profile can be downloaded here.
